Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen

Forget the standard hero-saves-the-world slog. Dragon Quest IV flips the script by chopping its narrative into distinct, bite-sized vignettes. You spend the early hours playing as a colorful cast of misfits—from a weary soldier to a merchant and twin sisters—each tackling their own personal quests. It is a brilliant structural gamble that forces you to care about the party members before they eventually converge for the grand finale. It is a masterclass in old-school RPG charm that manages to feel surprisingly intimate despite its epic scope.
